With co-author William Croyle, Tanya Brown tells her story in frank terms. She shares compelling and profoundly personal stories about her journey through the darkness, including excerpts from journals she kept during treatment.

Tanya takes readers on a healing journey of how she managed her depression and the importance of seeking help. The joy and determination she expresses through her presentations and through the use of twelve tools to living a better life is an encouragement to anyone who is suffering from depression.

About the Authors

After a mental breakdown and near suicide attempt in 2004, Tanya Brown checked into the psychiatric unit of a hospital where she learned how to cope with her depression, which was fueled by losses in her life. She now leads a happy and successful life as an author and life coach with a master’s degree in psychology. She is a public speaker on mental health and domestic violence issues. There are reportedly 350 million people worldwide suffering with depression. Tanya’s mission is to encourage those who are depressed find hope and to help break the stigma attached to mental illness.

Co-author William Croyle is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and graduate of St. Ignatius High School and Ashland University. He is the author of I Choose to be Happy: A School Shooting Survivor’s Triumph Over Tragedy, and Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11’s Last Survivor, which has been printed in four countries.

What Readers Are Saying

“Captivating, riveting, and inspirational! Easy to read and tough to put down. Tanya’s strength was tested on so many levels, and she has shown through her story that she is a survivor. Tanya has shown how anyone can survive depression and come out of it with a vibrant, healthy, and fulfilled life. Five stars for one of the best books I have read in a long time.”

“As someone who has suffered with depression for about forty years, I find it unbelievable that so many folks still attach a stigma and find it hard to accept the fact that it is a disease like diabetes or any other physical condition. One could say Tanya simply experienced many shattering emotional events that would bring anyone down, but that’s not how depression works.

“As in my case, the groundwork was laid several years earlier in Tanya’s childhood, waiting to rear its ugly head, and she suffered with the disease for many years before seeking the help that probably saved her life. This is an important book that talks about her suffering in terms everyone can relate to. Hooray for Tanya for her courage to expose the illness for what it is, and for her effort to encourage others to shed the fear of weakness and seek help earlier rather than later.”

“Deep, powerful, and healing. These were the first words that came to mind when reading Finding Peace Amid the Chaos. But, I am not sure any words can do this book justice because the book is an experience that leaves the reader empowered with a sense of peace and a knowing that there are tools for anyone who has gone down the rabbit hole of depression or loss. Written from a true life authentic point of view, my spirit was moved and my soul evolved by reading such an amazing work.”

“Tanya Brown’s story is gripping and compelling. The death of her sister, Nicole Brown Simpson, is an unimaginable loss, but Tanya’s story is about far more than a murder and the loss of a sister. The depression she has overcome offers hope to all of us who have faced loss, suffered from darkness, or lost ourselves in circumstances beyond our control. Tanya’s journey, written so honestly page after page, left me with a sense of victory and resiliency that we all long to find in life – no matter what our challenges and pain. This book is a testimony to the power of love, grace, redemption, and new dreams – no matter how dark the past, how great the pain, and no matter what others have done to us.”

“In her breathtaking book, Finding Peace Amid the Chaos, Tanya Brown shows us that it really is possible to move from a place of deep depression to ultimate triumph – while removing the stigma from mental illness. Tanya is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met and she keeps it real in her book as well, giving us her perspective on what it was like to go through a very public tragedy and her own personal challenges, while trying to find peace and truth. If you are going through a tough time in your life, or have at any time, you will be inspired and moved by her journey and words of wisdom.”

— Ursula Mentjes

“Tanya’s story is highly personal, revealing her struggles with a series of relationship losses that culminated in a psychiatric hospitalization. In this memoir, Tanya courageously describes her struggles with depression, the loss of her voice for fear of her family being misjudged, living in the shadow of her larger-than-life older sisters, and how she finally gained the courage to face and express her authentic feelings and find support.

“Now a life coach, motivational speaker, and advocate for victims of mental illness, Tanya’s story is a journey from post-traumatic stress to post-traumatic growth – from covering up her emotional struggles to actively confronting them and using her knowledge to inspire others, thereby honoring her sister’s memory. The book culminates in a series of practical strategies and coping tools to soothe negative emotion and take constructive action in the face of emotional challenges. Tanya’s story and tools provide understanding, hope, and help for survivors everywhere.”
